DIGESTIVE DISORDERS &
FUNCTIONAL GASTROENTEROLOGY

Optimal digestive health is crucial to overall well-being, serving as the foundation for a healthy body. The digestive system goes beyond nutrient processing; it plays a pivotal role in immune function, hormonal balance, metabolism, and even skin health. At the heart of digestive wellness is the microbiome—a diverse community of microorganisms that impacts digestion, immune regulation, gut integrity, and vitamin production, as well as contributing to the gut-brain axis. The gut-brain axis highlights how gut health can influence mental well-being, affecting conditions such as fatigue, anxiety, and depression.

Given the vital importance of the digestive system, it's striking that over 60% of people experience at least one digestive disorder. My approach focuses on restoring balance within the gut and microbiome. Through advanced diagnostic testing and individualized treatment plans, I aim to identify and address the root causes of digestive issues, guiding you towards renewed health and vitality.

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)

GERD is characterized by chronic acid reflux, leading to symptoms like heartburn and regurgitation. My approach involves identifying contributing factors and providing holistic treatments to manage symptoms effectively. I focus on dietary adjustments, lifestyle changes, and natural remedies to support digestive health and reduce reflux episodes.

H. pylori

H. pylori is a common bacteria that colonizes the stomach, and for many individuals does not result in significant symptoms. However, H. pylori can also reduce stomach acid (a condition called hypochlorhydria), resulting in incomplete digestion, deficiency of vitamins and minerals, ulcers and gastritis. After diagnosis is made through comprehensive stool analysis, I create a targeted treatment using antimicrobials to eliminate the infection and restore microbial balance.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

IBS is a common condition characterized by abdominal pain, bloating, and changes in bowel habits - either diarrhea, constipation, or alternating. While gut-brain interactions play a pivotal role in IBS, there are often additional underlying causes to IBS that remain unaddressed, resulting in ongoing pain and symptoms. My approach involves identifying and treating these other root causes to ensure complete resolution of symptoms.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

IBD, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, involves chronic inflammation of the small and large intestines. Our practice focuses on comprehensive care to manage symptoms, treat common complications such as nutrient deficiencies and support overall gut health. I employ personalized treatment plans, integrating dietary guidance, anti-inflammatory strategies, and natural therapies to address the complexities of IBD.

Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) / Intestinal Methanogen Overgrowth (IMO)

SIBO and IMO occur when excessive bacteria accumulate in the small intestine, leading to distressing symptoms like severe bloating, gas, abdominal pain and a change in bowel habits. After diagnosing with breath testing, I provide targeted interventions to address SIBO, including specific dietary plans, antimicrobial treatments, and strategies to prevent recurrence.

DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS

COMPREHENSIVE STOOL ANALYSIS

Comprehensive stool analyses provides essential insights into digestive health by examining microbiome composition and identifying pathogenic or opportunistic bacteria, viruses, and parasites. It also evaluates inflammation, immune function, and digestive capacity, while screening for celiac sensitivity, H. pylori infection, and Candida overgrowth. This detailed analysis helps us create targeted treatment plans of the root cause.

SIBO BREATH TESTING

SIBO testing offers a precise assessment by measuring three key gases—hydrogen, methane, and hydrogen sulfide—to accurately diagnose Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) and Intestinal Methanogen Overgrowth (IMO). This comprehensive approach provides a more detailed understanding than standard SIBO tests, ensuring a thorough evaluation of your gut health. This allows us to create both effective and targeted treatment plans.

FOOD SENSITIVITY TESTING

Food sensitivity testing provides critical insights by evaluating both IgG and IgA antibodies to accurately identify food sensitivities. This comprehensive approach ensures a precise diagnosis, helping us avoid over-restriction of foods in your diet. By pinpointing specific sensitivities, we can create a balanced and effective dietary plan that addresses your individual needs while maintaining nutritional variety and overall wellness.
